Refrigeration/Heat Pump Trainer (AR-007) is designed to demonstrate the basic refrigeration cycle, the basic heat pump cycle and the change in the state of the refrigerant as it goes through a refrigeration or heat pump cycle and measure the coefficient of operation for the refrigeration and heat pump cycle with different expansion devices and heat exchangers.

  • The trainer has a refrigeration/heat pump cycle which consists of a compressor, 2 condensers, receiver, 4 different expansion devices, reversing valve and 2 evaporators.
  • The trainer has 2 evaporators a static air evaporator and forced air evaporator.
  • The trainer has 2 condensers; one is forced air cooled and the other is water cooled.
  • The evaporator & condenser can be chosen via different solenoid valves.
  • When using the heat pump cycle only the air forced condenser can be used, and the chamber door has to be kept open, if it is closed the cycle would stop
  • The utilized expansion device can be chosen using manual valves.
  • The reversing valve reverses the cycle between refrigeration and heat pump and it can be operated manually.
  • Temperatures and pressures values are measured at four different points through the cycle after and before the evaporator and after and before the condenser.
  • The trainer is controlled using operation electrical switches on the control panel.
  • The control panel houses electrical control switches, digital displays and a schematic diagram for the cycle.
  • The refrigerant volume flow rate is measured using a rotameter.
  • The measured temperatures are displayed on 4 digital displays.
  • The solenoid valves are operated from switches on the control panel and the measured parameters are only displayed on the digital displays, where the trainee is to manually record measured values and calculate the coefficient of operation.
