This educational unit (AR – 010) is designed to allow investigating the operation of model central air conditioning unit, the proper sizing and design of central air conditioning units to accommodate certain loads and identifying central air conditioning unit components. The trainer consists of model central air conditioning unit components, load room, electrical controls, sensors, digital displays, ducting work and a computer with a touch screen.

  • The trainer consists mainly of two units connected by a cable, a central air conditioning unit complete with load generating room and ducting work, and a control unit complete with electrical controls, sensors, digital displays, operation switches and a touch screen computer.
  • The unit is equipped with a data acquisition system that enables transfer of measured parameters by the sensors to the computer.
  • The computer is equipped with an interactive software that acts as the interface between the user and the unit and has the capability to represent curves plotted using the logged parameters.
  • The model central air conditioning components consists of a fan, cooling coil, humidifier, heating coil and mixing chamber.
  • The fan speed is adjustable and so the flow rate is adjustable.
  • The cooling coil has a compression cycle to generate the cooling effect and thermostat to set the cooling coil temperature.
  • The heating coil consists of an electrical heater and its heating power can be adjusted using a knob on the control panel or it can be set using the touch screen.
  • 3 Dampers are used to determine the fresh air and return air mixing ratio.
  • The dampers can be controlled by setting the required mixing ratio using a knob on the control panel or through the software.
  • The humidifier consists of a water tub and an electrical heater to evaporate the water, the humidifier has a drain and a steam eliminator system.
  • The humidifier drain is electrically
    operated.
  • The steam eliminator system allows the hot water to be replaced with cold water, so the steam is eliminated instantaneously which allows precise control over the humidification.
  • The fan, cooling coil, heating coil and humidifier can be controlled using switches on the control panel or through the software.
  • The load room contains a sensible heating coil and latent load device.
  • The loads of the sensible heating coil and latent load device can be operated using switches and knobs on the control panel or through the software.
  • The unit has temperature sensors to measure temperature upstream and downstream of the cooling coil and heating coil.
  • Humidity is measured upstream and downstream of humidifier.
  • The measured temperature and humidity are displayed on digital displays on the control panel and through the software.
  • Printed on the control panel is a diagram representing the various air conditioning processes.
  • The ducts are made of a transparent material to allow the various process to be visualized.
  • The unit has a safety switch to force turning OFF the unit in case of emergency.
  • The load room has a drain which can be operated using a switch on the control panel or through the software.
