The open channel flume simulator (HI100) is designed to illustrate the principles of fluid mechanics when applied to an open channel flow. The side walls of the experimental section are made of tempered glass in order to provide total visibility of the flow and the experiments.

  • The Educational unit includes an experimental flume with experimental section, inlet and outlet element and closed water circuit.
  • The inlet element includes a stilling arrangement to diffuse the water flow prior to entry into the channel, ensuring smooth uniform flow.
  • The level in the experimental section is controlled using an overshot weir at the discharge end.
  • The educational unit also includes a water tank, pump and manual flow adjustment.
  • The inclination of the experimental section can be adjusted accurately using an a lifiting jack.
  • The length of the experimental section is 2.5  m and can be extended to 5m.
  • The side walls of the experimental section are made of tempered glass in order to provide total visibility of the flow and the experiments.
  • All the surfaces of the educational unit that are in contact with water are made of stainless steal.
  • The inlet element is designed so that the flow enters the experimental section with very little turbulence.
  • A wide selection of models (not included), such as weirs, piers, flow-measuring flumes or a wave generator are available as accessories and ensure a comprehensive understanding of experiments
  • The educational unit is mounted on a rigid framework,
