The industrial mechatronics trainer represents a complete system that is designed to demonstrate sorting methods of products by using PLC (programmable logic controller) which is used in real-life industrial plants the system consists of four processes (Loading – Transporting – Measuring – Sorting) each process exists in isolated station. But They connected together using linked plates.
- The training system consists of four stations to perform the processes of: loading, transporting, measuring and sorting.
- Each station has PLC S7-1200, emergency button, main on/off, and process on/off.
- The processes performed simulate those that occur in real-life industrial plants.
- The first process is loading process, the hopper moves the work pieces from a magazine and places it in a deposit location.
- The second process is transporting process, A suction cup is attached to an arm in order to transport the parts from the hopper to the start of the measuring station carriage. The arm moves 180 degrees.
- The third process is the measuring process, in which an analog sensor determines the height of the workpieces and sends signals to the PLC to perform the required measurements.
- The last process is sorting process, in which each work piece is sorted and delivered to its convenient storage box and the rejected parts to its storage box.
- The system is equipped with metal sensor to detect the workpieces material, and color sensor to indicate the color of the pieces, and an object detection sensor to count the number of workpieces.
- The first station is the service station which includes the switches module.
- The loading system consists of hopper, light barrier, object detection sensors, color detection sensor, metal/non-metal sensor and pneumatic cylinder.
- The hopper is supplied with a light barrier to sense the existence of the parts within it.
- A pneumatic cylinder which is mounted to the hopper moves the test parts from the hopper to the picking place.
- The moved object is passed by object detection sensor, color sensor, and metal sensor to state its presence, its color, and its material.
- The transporting system consists of rotating arm and suction cup.
- The arm moves 180 degrees by using a rotary cylinder attached to it.
- A suction cup is attached to the arm in order to transport the parts from the hopper to the start of measuring station.
- The measuring system consists of rod-less cylinder, pneumatic cylinder and analog transmitter.
- Analog transmitter is provided to determine the presence and the height of the parts giving signals to the PLC.
- If the object is accepted, it is then transmitted to storage.
- Otherwise, the object is rejected.
- The sorting system consist of DC motor, encoder, belt conveyer and light barrier
- The Conveyor is driven using DC motor which is supplied with encoder that aids in position control of the workpiece
- A light barrier is provided where it senses the presence of the work piece.
- One pneumatic cylinder is used to push each sorted part to its convenient storage box.
- Three storage boxes are used for the sorted test parts where there is storage for metallic and non metallic test parts.
- The storage box is supplied with a light barrier sensor to detect if the box is full or not.
