The Discovery station (MSM-017) is designed to teach the fundamental industrial principles including measurement, gauging, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and statistical process control. This training system allows learners to develop practical skills that will be directly applied in real world.

  • The training system allows students to build core measurement skills, measuring the quality of products is critical in producing high quality products.
  • The discovery station includes a workstation, modular gauge system and accessories, precision measurement gauge set, precision measuring tools kit, parts set, and a storage unit.
  • The unit allows the use of these components to understand applications such as measurement conversion, dimensional gauging, location tolerances, GD&T, and orientation tolerances.
  • The Metrology system can be used in the classroom, system allows learners to develop practical, hands-on skills that will be directly applied such as CNC machine operators.
  • The discovery station includes a variety of real components, such as a micrometer, a vernier caliper, a dial gauge, a torque wrench, a meter tape, a protractor, a snap gauge and plug gauge
  • This system teaches skills with a wide variety of industrial gauges that helps students build a solid foundation in modern measurement tools and applications.
  • Students can practice using a snap gauge to perform quick, accurate measurement of cylindrical parts’ outside diameters.
  • A thread gauge can be used to determine if a part’s threads are within tolerance specifications.
  • The skills that can be enhanced by this system includes, identifying baseline dimensions, using a caliper to measure an outside length of a part, calculating the limits of a dimension given its tolerance, determining if a hole meets position tolerance, and measuring parallelism of a rectangular part using an indicator.
  • The Accurate measurement is critical in the product manufacturing process, whether in design, manufacturing, or repair.
  • The unit helps in the understanding of the theoretical concepts behind the skills; this can be done through the Metrology’s curriculum which covers major topic areas like basic measurement, precision measurement tools, dimensional gauging, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and location, orientation, and form tolerances.
