The Earthquake Simulator is a bench-scale, mid-size, open-architecture XY-axis motion simulator ideal for research and teaching in structural dynamics, earthquake engineering, and other related fields. This simulator allows trainers to use sine waves, chirp signals, and scaled earthquake data such as those from Northridge, Kobe, and El-Centro to study their impact on structures like bridges and buildings, as well as various materials.

  • The Earthquake simulator features a top stage powered by a strong motor, allowing it to achieve an acceleration of 2.5 g with a 7.5 kg load.
  • The simulator travels a total distance of 15.2 cm and is supported by two linear bearings on ground-hardened metal shafts, providing smooth linear motion with minimal path deflection.
  • Utilizing two double-axis motion simulator systems enables users to either accommodate larger payloads or facilitate research involving bidirectional shaking.
  • The simulator features a high-resolution encoder and a durable ball-screw actuation mechanism.
  • The apparatus comprises user-built structures, allowing for easy integration of external sensors and actuators.
  • The simulator includes:
  • Built-in limit switches for improved safety
  • Ball-screw mechanism for robust and precise actuation.
  • High-quality linear guide.
  • The unit is supplied with three starry flexible frames of different heights, all compatible with the plate.
  • The simulation is built specifically for the university and utilizes the control software.
  • The system includes software to control the actuators.
