The condensation process training system (TD-008) is designed to demonstrate the theory and application of the condensation process allowing the trainees to experiment two different types of condensation methods using two tubular shaped water-cooled condensers.
- The educational unit demonstrates two types of condensation methods, the film condensation and the dropwise condensation.
- The unit is divided into three sections, A process area section, a panel for control and properties display section as well as a schematic diagram for the process.
- The trainer consists of two transparent acrylic vessels to provide better observation for the process, the larger one where the process takes place while the smaller one is used as liquid trap tank.
- The process vessel consists of a heater and two different condensers, a film condenser and dropwise condenser.
- The film condenser is made out of copper material with rough surface while the drop condenser is silver plated with smooth surface in order to allow trainees to compare between different condensation processes.
- The process vessel can be supplied with water by opening the drain valve.
- Water supplied to the process vessel must be distilled in order to prevent any depositions on the condensers.
- The two condensers are provided with cooling cycles with common inlet and outlet ports.
- The educational unit is supplied with sensors to record temperature, pressure and flowrate at all relevant points.
- The trainer is provided with needle valves for precise flow control.
- The process vessel contains baffles in order to decrease the velocity of the steam.
- The educational unit is supplied with water jet vacuum pump to evacuate the system to eliminate the effect of non-condensable gases on the condensation process.
- The water heater is supplied with level switch and as a safety measure to prevent it from overheating.
- The educational trainer is supplied with tube-in tube heat exchanger in order to cool steam to the liquid trap tank.
- A non-return valve is fitted into the steam pipe to prevent the water from flowing back through the pipe.
- Water collected in liquid trap tank can be used to compensate water loss in the process vessel.
- The trainer can be operated manually or by using data acquisition system and software system connected with PC via the USB interface.
