The training system is an educational unit designed to simulate the operation of an electric vehicle powered by a fuel cell. This trainer typically consists of components that demonstrate the working principles of hydrogen fuel cells, energy conversion, and their application in electric vehicles. These trainers help trainees understand real-world FCEV technologies, fostering practical skills and insights into sustainable transport systems. Experiments conducted with the trainer focus on understanding fuel cell performance, efficiency, energy storage, motor control and environmental impact, making it a valuable asset in engineering and environmental science education. The Trainer includes software that simulates real-world driving and fuel cell behavior.

  • The training system provides students with a hands-on experiment set to examine the construction, functionality and benefits of fuel cell and hybrid electric vehicles.
  • The trainer include hydrogen filling station that shows safe vehicle refilling.
  • The main components of the training system:
    • Fuel Cell Stack
    • Gas Storage
    • Hydrogen Filling Station
    • Fan
    • Battery
    • Vehicle Test Bench
    • Energy Management Board
  • A fuel cell stack generates electricity from hydrogen and oxygen. The number of cells can be adjusted to experiment with various degrees of output.
  • The hydrogen generated at the filling station is used to fuel hydrogen storage canisters, which serve as a vehicle's gas tank.
  • The filling station is made up of a double-membrane electrolyzer, which uses electricity to convert water into oxygen and hydrogen.
  • The generated hydrogen is kept in the hydrogen canister and utilized to power the electric vehicle.
  • The fan enhances the inflow of ambient oxygen into the fuel cell stack, which helps to regulate or improve its efficiency.
  • The water absorber keeps distilled water out of the fuel cell.
  • The battery can be charged by the fuel cell stack.
  • The battery enables the hybridization of the system. This allows the typical operation of a hybrid battery car and the role of the fuel cell as a range extender to be displayed.
  • The hybrid vehicle can be powered by the battery or a fuel cell stack that sources hydrogen from two storage canisters inside the vehicle and convert into electricity.
  • The system can be operated independently or in conjunction with the vehicle test bench.
  • In addition to the electrical load, the test bench mimics the road, allowing for the simulation of normal load profiles and individual drive cycles.
  • Energy Management board is central control circuit that supports wireless communication- enabled system navigation for regulating vehicle velocity, the electrolyzer and additionally supports data measurement and acquisition.
  • The modular setup enables trainees to analyze separated subcomponents or the entire hybrid system.
  • The software allows for system control and parameter monitoring, data acquisition, and graphical visualization of acquired data.
  • The software depicts vehicle component interaction, energy conversion from one kind to another, flow direction.
