The electric power steering benchtop (BST105) is a fully functional trainer. The trainer provides a safe and effective ways of demonstrating the principles of electric power steering systems used on today’s vehicles. It allows participants to study the parts, functions, and operation of the system with this benchtop trainees will quickly learn just how electric power steering works. It also has the opportunity to conduct CAN measurements directly on the steering mechanism.

  • The electric power steering systems elaborate the principles and working mechanisms of this type of steering.
  • The system consists of real-world components mounted on a benchtop and a control panel. The benchtop makes it easier to use and handle during experimental procedures.
  • The control panel contain ignition switch, emergency button, incases of any inconveniences, as well as load current meter.
  • Terminals for the battery, data link connector, EPS control unit, torque sensor and CAN system are laid on the control panel enabling user to perform different experiments and measurements.
  • The system comprises electric motor, gear box, steering column, steering load simulation, and steering wheel.
  • A real and operable EPS system is used to illustrate the structure of the system.
  • An electric motor drives the rack according to the vehicle speed and the amount of torque on the steering wheel .
  • The trainer has detection terminals to detect electric signals of circuit components of the EPS.
  • The vehicle trouble diagnostic tool is an electronic tool used to interface with, diagnose, and sometimes reprogram vehicle control modules.
  • The main purpose of electric power steering system is to provide assistance to the driver. This is achieved by measuring the steering wheel movement and sending a signal to the controller. This is carried out in the trainer through applying load on the steering load simulation to imitate the movement of a wheel manually by rotating the wheel using hand. In return, the torque sensor detects this action and sends signal to the electric motor to start.
